      <image:title>Acupuncture - Acupuncture</image:title>
<image:caption>Acupuncture is based on the concept that the body has a vital energy, or Qi (pronounced Chee), which flows throughout the body along different pathways or channels. In Chinese medicine it is believed pain or illness are often caused by a disruption or blockage of this Qi flow. This may occur for a variety of reasons, such as poor nutrition, emotional stress, physical injury or infection. Acupuncture unblocks or activates the flow of Qi by the insertion of very thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body. While hundreds of acupuncture points can be found all over the body, acupuncturists carefully select a handful of these points in order to restore the body’s balance and stimulates the body’s natural healing processes. Acupuncture treatments are designed to affect the whole body, you may therefore find that it assists with some of your other health issues. For example, some patients report improved sleep, a strong energy boost or feeling calmer. Many patients also feel a sense of relaxation after their acupuncture treatments and a general increased sense of wellbeing. Our practitioners use an extremely gentle technique when inserting each needle. You may feel a slight pinprick as the needle is inserted followed by a general heaviness or warmth in the area. Acupuncture is generally not painful or uncomfortable but if you do feel any discomfort please let your practitioner know and they will adjust the treatment accordingly.</image:caption>

      <image:title>CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE - Chinese Herbal Medicine</image:title>
<image:caption>Chinese herbal medicine may be prescribed in either pill or powder form. Like acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine has developed over thousands of years. Herbal prescriptions usually contain a number of herbs, each complementing the other in their actions. These formula are devised by the practitioner based on the patient’s specific health requirements and may be modified or adjusted as the patient recovers or as their symptoms change. Plant-based materials are primarily used, including the leaves, flowers, seeds, branches and roots of the plant. Examples of some of the commonly used herbs that you might know include ginger, liquorice root, red dates and turmeric. It is important to note that, as registered practitioners, it is illegal to use products derived from endangered or protected animals or plant species. We fully support and adhere to this requirement.</image:caption>

      <image:title>JAVIER - Javier Alvarez</image:title>
<image:caption>(He/him) Javier’s curiosity for Chinese Medicine began as a child in Mexico when he was fascinated by his father’s use of acupuncture and cupping. His father was a GP who also applied acupuncture and cupping to treat many of his patients back in the 1990s. Although Javier didn’t know it then, he would follow in his father’s footsteps later in life. Javier completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Chinese Medicine at the Southern School of Natural Therapies. Javier’s areas of interest include psycho-emotional wellbeing and pain management with a particular emphasis on dermatology and facial rejuvenation. Javier is a firm believer in the unification of body health, emotional health and radiant physical health. Healthy skin is a reflection of the internal state of the body. Javier also has a keen interest in treating musculoskeletal conditions and general health complaints. Javier has completed a number of accreditations in constitutional facial acupuncture, also referred to as cosmetic acupuncture. Javier’s constitutional facial acupuncture treatments combine individualised body acupuncture aimed to treat internal imbalances, as well as facial acupuncture to give the face more glow and a rejuvenated, younger look. Javier is a registered practitioner with the Chinese Medicine Registration Board of Australia, Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and a member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA). Consultations with Javier are covered by all major private health funds. Javier is available for appointments on Monday and Friday.</image:caption>
